Film Fashion: Love Story

One night junior year of college, I was lacking for work today and while all my friends were busy studying, I decided it was time I watch Love Story. If you know me, I am not a sappy movie person, I actually laughed when I finished The Notebook for the first time. I decided to put cynicism to the side though and watch Love Story and I am so happy I did.
The clothes in Love Story truly makes the movie worthwhile. While the movie certainly has some faults like Robert Redford’s character not telling Ali Macgraw’s character that she had a terminal illness, at least they both looked good while doing it. Below are some of my favorite looks from Love Story.
Is it just me or do black and white images make everything more chic?

My entire life might be spent in pursuit of this coat. It is a combination of my two favorite coats that are already in heavy rotation a trench coat and a good camel coat. The collar provides added drama, but also warmth, and what better combination could you want? Keeping her hair tucked in too, gives her such a nonchalance, like “I just threw this on, on my way to class!” Which if you went to Radcliffe that was probably the case. Until I find her coat here are some of my favorites.
I bought this one at the Everlane Sample Sale and while I don’t feel exactly like Ali Macgraw, I do feel terribly French.

A red dress is one of my favorite pieces, because without saying anything you are exuding power. It does not even have to be particularly obvious or skin baring to make a statement. Again it is a challenge to find one that is as timeless and simple as hers, but here are some of my favorites.
I love the long sleeve wedding dress look, the flowers in her hair, and the bouquet that looks like it was picked on its way to the ceremony. Everything about it just screams effortless.

If only we all looked this calm and composed when engaging in an argument, until then, maybe a plaid mini will make us feel like we have control over our own lives.
This photo makes me wish I had gone to Camp Tuckahoe, I don’t even know if it is a real place, but sign me up. Below are some ones that would look great with some white mini shorts.
One of the chicest things about a winter white jacket is the impracticality of it. Knowing myself I would only be able to get one wear out of it before I have inevitably gotten some stain on it. Maybe one day, when I am an adult I will be capable of wearing a white coat without creating a mess. Until that day arrives, here are some that I admire.
