As our last orientation activity, we went on a walking tour with one of the program's professors. Something he said that struck me was that Prati (the neighborhood I live in) is considered to be the "modern" neighborhood in Rome, mind you most of the buildings here were built in the 18th/19th century. It really made me realize the sheer volume of history here compared to the US.
On Thursday was our first day of classes, I had my European Comparative Politics class then used the afternoon to explore. It was overcast and drizzly so my friend Felicia and I decided to head across the river to go to a museum. While we were walking over there, we stumbled upon the Spanish Steps and decided that we would wander around here for a bit. At the base of the Spanish Steps is the home, where John Keats lived. We decided to keep walking for a bit and also found the Trevi Fountain.
Over the weekend, I crossed the river and walked through some Piazzas (squares, there are usually street artists, restaurants, shops) and go to the Galleria d'arte Moderna. It has easily become one of my favorite museums. After I was done walking around there, I decided to go to the Borghese Gardens, which were packed with tourists and locals like enjoying the beautiful Saturday.
Easily the best part about my classes here is the abundance of field trips. Yesterday, my "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day" class went to the Forum to learn about what Rome looked like when it was founded by Romulus. We also had the chance to walk around and see one of the most spectacular views of Rome.
