Caldwell Curates: San Marco
Prior to my mother’s visit, I had been scouting out
restaurants I wanted to take her to. I often walked passed San Marco in Prati,
which has fragments of oriental rugs decorating the walls and every chair is
upholstered in a slightly different striped fabric. My inclination to make a
reservation was solely based on how much I liked the decorating. I made a
reservation for Mom and I on her first night in town and it was so good, I
ended up coming back two more times.
First off, the service here is incredible. Every time I have
gone the servers have personality and are happy to give you recommendations. I
have found that at some restaurants the servers are less than thrilled to be
serving tourists. Mom and I ordered the arancini to start, which was warm and
gooey, just the way I like it. For our main courses Mom had the sausage and
sage rigatoni and I had the Quattro formaggi gnocchi. My gnocchi may or may not
have been life changing, it was so rich and just melted on your tongue with
each bite. I snuck a bit of Mom’s and hers was lighter, but every bit as
delicious.
One of my favorite parts of this restaurant is
there a huge variety in the menu, so everyone will be able to find something
they life. My favorite thing though is that when you are listening to the other
diners, no one is speaking English, which is the hallmark of a good restaurant
in a city that can sometimes feel like there is only tourists. Here is the website if you wish to visit! A recommendation is not usually needed but if you are more than two, I would make it to be on the safe side.
Unfortunately, the only photo I took!
